Field hockey is a game in which there are two teams, both of which try to score a goal using sticks, which are curved at one end. A team consist of 11 players comprising 5 forwards, 2 fullbacks, 3 halfbacks and 1 goal keeper. Besides it, there are 5 substitutes. Field hockey rules state that a hockey match should comprise of two halves, each of them last for 30-35 minutes. The teams change their direction after first half of the match. The field is measured 100yards in length and 55-60 yards in breadth.

The hockey play commences from the centre spot. A coin tossed deicide which team shall hit the ball first. The process is repeated to reactivate the ball, after a goal is scored. If by any means, there is pause in the game, the restart of the game is called the bully. The ball is placed in the middle of two players from different teams. The player should tap the ground with the stick once, and then they need to tap their sticks thrice before hitting the ball.
